A Heart's Journey
Hilary Aida Heartisan
fine art print making and photography
I see these images speaking. They speak from my heart. A language of the soul. A phonetic often lost in our daily tumble. In my images I see the carriages that we build to hold the light of our hearts. I see dreams, and the detachments and confusions we use to quiet them. I see the hope filled, joyful side of humanity that reigns in our quiet sacred moments. I create images to find inspiration. An artist can only hope that these images will inspire you to search yourself, to consider your own reality, to become a source of light, and to grow. Blessed Be. Shine Brightly.
(artist statement fall, 2005)
Our reality is a distortion. We turn the physical world into brain patterns that weave a tapestry of experience, of memory, of fantasy, of beauty. Color, sound, light are all ideas that we create to understand the rush of signals. Art reinterprets the world again, adding another layer to the folds of experience. The photograph, no longer objective truth. I distort images to see beauty and mystery; 3-D to 2-D, light to film to paper, paper to eyes to brain. The worlds I create are perhaps the way I wish it was, dream it is, know it could be, experience it as, am terrified of it being. I am delighted by these possibilities. (artists statment, spring, 2006)
About the Artist: Hilary grew up in Sedona, Arizona - land of red rocks and wild animals. She graduated from Lewis and Clark University, Portland Oregon in 2004. The Metamorphosis Series was created for the degree show at Lewis and Clarck College. In June of 2004 she married her high school sweet heart, Jason Heartisan by jumping off a waterfall into a river in New Mexico. In 2005-2006 they attended Cyprus College of Art on the medeteranian island of Cyprus. The year in Cyprus was a lot of struggle but with perserverance she produced some unique and inspired work. The other work shown is from this time period. Now Hilary and Jason are planting roots in Boulder Colorado. The dream of living on a mountain with lots of animals and art and joy is coming in small steps. First they are living near a mountain - a puppy and kitten soon to come.
